Self Expectations vs. Entitlement: A Journey of Growth

Updated: Jan 12

In both our professional and personal lives, the concepts of expectation and entitlement often intertwine, yet they are fundamentally different.

Expectation is rooted in discipline, effort, and the pursuit of excellence. It’s about setting high standards for ourselves and committing to the grind necessary to achieve them. When we hold ourselves accountable and put in the work, we not only elevate our own performance but also inspire those around us. High expectations drive us to exceed our own limits and cultivate a mindset of resilience and growth.

On the other hand, entitlement arises from a mindset that expects rewards without the accompanying effort. It’s the belief that one deserves success or recognition simply for existing, rather than for the hard work and dedication put in. This mentality can hinder growth, as it often leads to complacency and a lack of motivation to strive for more.

As we navigate our careers and personal development, let’s focus on fostering expectations that challenge us to grow, rather than falling into the trap of entitlement. Remember: true success comes from grit, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence
